About the VR Store:  Our Story

The Volusia Riders Store exists to provide VR "family members" with even more ways to extend their shared experience beyond just the virtual.

We strive to provide items that allow for a real life expression of our common bond. Most items in the store began as a suggestion from VR members, and we always want to hear your new ideas.

Our most recent overhaul includes the "Zazzle" branch of the Store to allow our members more choices and options in their VR items!  Be sure to visit and check it out!

A  SHORT  HISTORY of The Volusia Riders Store:

The Original "VR Shop" was opened by Graham Wignall (aka, Wiggo, VR member #13), in the U.K., using artwork he designed so that the growing VR family could sport something in common in the way of patches, etc. He designed four different logos: one each for the U.K., the U.S., Canada, and a special one for the southern U.S., the Redneck version. Each design shows a bike coming at you through the center of a big "V" in front of the country's flag.

Lack of time on Wiggo's part to maintain the store allowed him to agree in February, 2008, to sell the rights to the Shop and his artwork to Robert Chewning (aka, Mightydog), who agreed to pick up where Wiggo left off in providing products to VR members. True to form, Wiggo immediately donated the proceeds to a charity,
MDF, The BiPolar Organization .   Meanwhile, Mightydog recruited Rick Fletcher (aka, Fletch24990) to help run the store.

So, in March, 2008, the "new" VR Store opened for business, offering logo bumper stickers to U.S. & Canadian members using Wiggo's original Volusia Riders designs. Patches and pins for U.S. customers soon followed. By summer, thanks to all the help from VR members, a new design had been developed, in response to repeated requests from Boulevard riders, whose numbers were growing fast. The new design evolved directly from its roots in Wiggo's original, and at the same time, it became reflective of our varied international membership. The new logo still has the bike coming right at you, but now it's busting through a big V-twin engine in front of a globe, and the word "international" replaces the country names. An updated international version was then rolled out for the Volusia riders who wanted something new.

In the mean time, through the years, many members have moved on to different rides, and not all want a bike-related patch any longer, but they still feel a part of this unique online forum. To bring it all together so that all members worldwide, "no matter where you live, no matter what you ride," could finally show pride in one logo, the all new "VR International Family of Riders" Diamond design was developed. The first patches, pins, and stickers in the new design came out around the end of summer.

In Fall of 2008 the first items besides patches, pins, and stickers were introduced, and new items continue to be introduced as demanded. Wiggo still owns the rights to the U.K. version of the original logo, and operates the original shop especially for U.K. members interested in that design.

We have to issue a great word of thanks to Tim Greene, who acted as our webmaster for over a year, during a critical time for the Store.  Tim designed and built major technical parts of the site, some of which are still in use, and is also responsible for the more professional-looking product photography.  He put in a lot of time helping us out, for little more than a sampling of products we sent him to work with.  If you see something you like, it was probably done by him.  If you need a webmaster, he's your man.  You can contact him by PM at the VR site via the handle "TGreene".

In Summer of 2010, VR member "mdram", aka Roger Kahl, stepped up by volunteering to be the VR Tech Librarian.  Since then, he's been collecting, formatting, and organizing the various docs that can be found in the FREE TECH LIBRARY we now host at the Store's site.

Finally, we want to thank especially Wiggo, and the other early members of the VR, the owners, and moderators, who took the time and effort to care enough to make it what it has become today.

UPDATE, November 2010:  The Volusia Riders Store continues to operate as a completely separate entity from Volusiariders.com since it's takeover by Motorcycle.com last summer, and has no relationship whatsoever with Volusiariders.com or Motorcycle.com, and never has.  We're here solely to serve the members of the forum and family.
